Ep 29: Galactic Evolution

Synopsis

I hope you’re excited about space & physics, because this episode is all about Astrophysics! You’ll get a look into the evolution of galaxies in the cosmological sequence of our Universe. Then we will shift gears and talk about a substance that is roughly 5x more abundant than the matter that makes up you and I; Dark Matter! To end this podcast, Skylar and I give your brain a little bit of a break when we chat about Education & Science Communication.

Skylar Grayson

Skylar is currently pursuing a PhD in astrophysics at Arizona State University. Her research focuses on galactic evolution, using computational methods to model the universe and understanding how supermassive black holes lead to a loss of material over time. With a diverse research background including pharmaceutical lab work, dark matter research, and nanomaterial modeling, she has always loved the process of doing science, but it was astrophysics that captured her imagination more than any other field.

At ASU, she is also working on a secondary project in education research and is passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation of young scientists. This passion led her to social media, where she started posting videos on TikTok this year, sharing astronomy fun facts and generally using it as a creative outlet. As her platform grew, she expanded her reach in the realm of science communication to Twitter and YouTube and has recently been accepted to participate in the NASA Social event for the Artemis 1 launch.
