Synopsis

PhD Student and singer-songwriter Michelle Wang joins the podcast to discuss Soft Matter Physics, PhD programs and her music career. Soft Matter Physics is an emerging subcategory of Condensed Matter that in essence focuses on squishy material (non-rigid). We discuss what Soft Matter is, the science behind it and applications that can be pursued in the work force as well as research.

Meet the Guest Star


Michelle Wang

Michelle is a singer-songwriter that is currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, focusing on Soft Matter Research at Emory University. 

She has been doing research in experimental Soft Matter Physics since her freshman year at the University of San Diego in 2017. Michelle published a first-author scientific journal article on “Soft Matter” in 2019 with various talks and poster presentations to follow. Because of her research, Michelle was fortunate to talk at national conferences such as the APS March Meeting!

But besides Physics, Michelle puts a lot of work into her music. She started producing singles at the age of 16, but has been writing lyrics, singing and playing music for practically her whole life. 

Her music identifies with acoustic pop, folk, and R&B but has been involved in Opera performance as well in her high school and college undergrad days.
